New York's Finest: Sideshow Nation IV, Thru the Rabbit Hole
Feb 9, 2016
Richard Timperio's Sideshow Gallery is one of Brooklyn's cornerstone visual art institutions. For the past 15 years, in addition to providing solo shows for many artists, including Dana Gordon, Jonas Mekas, Larry Poons, and Thornton Willis, artist/gallerist Richard Timperio has hosted and chosen a massive regular group exhibition at his venue in Williamsburg that has become the annual must-see event in New York art.
This year the tradition goes on, with Sideshow Nation IV, Thru the Rabbit Hole, through March 20.
Art critic James Panero from The New Criterion wrote, in his review of the 2012 edition of this show, "I have never seen a larger gathering of work by great contemporary artists. ...The artists here are tied together in more ways than one. This is not some museum curator’s idea of what’s hip this season but rather a long-developing organic network. On opening night, the line goes around the block for hours, even without advertising or coverage in the mainstream media."
This year repeats the feat, with over 600 artists, whose work Timperio as usual masterfully hangs. The roster includes Nicolas Carone, Cora Cohen, Lori Ellison, Ronnie Landfield, Mario Naves, Kim Uchiyama, John Walker, Thornton Willis, and three artists represented by IdeelArt, Jean Feinberg, Dana Gordon and José Heerkens.
The gallery is open Thurs-Sun between 12-6
