McCagg listens to music when she is working – all varieties.
In this work, she was thinking about composition in a different way – the power of hearing a passage or when an individual note strikes the air.
Painting is metaphor; like a symphony. She does think a lot about the titles and look through the dictionary because she is interested in language and meaning of words. When titling, it has a relationship to what she is trying to express.
Xanda McCagg is an American abstract artist who lives and works in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. A classically trained painter, she has evolved into a style that abandons figuration in search of evoking the human essence.
