Melissa Meyer has created a diverse oeuvre that includes oil paintings, drawings, watercolors, prints and large-scale public commissions.
Her work is strongly influenced by color and line. Her brushstrokes and patterns possess a glyph-like quality, conveying a vibrant and deeply personal aesthetic language.
Meyer is skilled in a range of different printing techniques, including lithography, etching, monotype, silkscreen, and spit bite aquatint.
A characteristic Melissa Meyer work, this print is subdivided into squarish compartments that read across and down, creating an effect of a quilted surface. The loose-knit seriality of her units is given variety through her hand as it wanders within each square and across, over and down. Thus Meyer’s sequential renewal of smaller areas of squiggles and blobs tied across the surface of the canvas create the effect of luminous netting that spans across each painting.
Print commissioned and published by the Vera List Art Project at Lincoln Center. Printed by Brand X. This print is AP 5/18.
