For this work, Stone was thinking of blue as an emotional space as well as relating to the natural world – as in sky or water.
In this piece as well as Full Flush, angled lines create a ripple effect, an idea of movement or even sound – like music.
The blue is punctuated with lines of green or purple as well, so the eye comes in and out of blue but always returns to the blue.
The rhythm of a ripple also connotes musical rhythm.
Audrey Stone is an American abstract artist. Her work explores color, line, materiality and process across multiple mediums and surfaces. She was born in New York City, and currently lives and works in Brooklyn.
