Many of Stone's works have four elements or areas that have tension pulling at them and holding them together at the same time.
For her, this tension is an expression of the various pulls and balances that exist in the roles each of us play in our lives - in family and in self.
In Holding It Together, the materials also vary from section to section – two are painted, one is sewn, and one consists of the marks left from painting over thread and then removing the thread – almost a print.
Audrey Stone is an American abstract artist. Her work explores color, line, materiality and process across multiple mediums and surfaces. She was born in New York City, and currently lives and works in Brooklyn.
